IV Therapy for Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is a very common pregnancy symptom in the first trimester typically from around week 6 to anywhere around 18 weeks pregnant. While, this is typically a normal symptom, some experience more severe cases than others and may have hyperemesis gravidarum.

What is Hyperemesis Gravidarum?

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a severe form of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy that can lead to dehydration, weight loss, and electrolyte imbalances. It is different from the typical morning sickness experienced by many pregnant women, as it is much more severe and persistent. If you're someone who has a persistent case of morning sickness occurring several times weekly or even daily, you are more than likely to become dehydrated.

Dehydration can not only interfere with the health of a mother, but also with the growth of the baby.

IV therapy can be helpful in managing morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum by providing bioidentical fluid (i.e. saline) directly into the bloodstream. This helps to rehydrate the body and replenish essential nutrients that may be lost due to vomiting. IV therapy can also provide medications to help control nausea and vomiting, which can be more effective when administered intravenously compared to oral medications that may not be absorbed properly due to vomiting.

IV therapy is safe, quick, and effective. In a short time, you will receive the nutrients your body needs to continue growing a little human and reverse the effects of dehydration.

What Is a Saline IV Drip?

Our bodies are composed of 60% of water, making hydration essential for the human body. When dehydrated, we may experience symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, nausea, lightheadedness and physical and metal performance decreases.

When suffering with morning sickness, a hangover, Covid-19 recovery, cold, flu, or athletic recovery, the risk of dehydration is much greater.

Drinking water is an excellent source of hydration, but more often than not, people do not consume enough fluids or hydrating foods per day. (For those looking to lose weight, water also helps boosts the metabolism to burn calories faster!) Liquid IV for pregnancy, like saline drips, offer a quick solution for fluid replacement and symptom relief.

A saline IV drip is administered intravenously with nutrients and electrolytes delivered directly to the bloodstream. While you may drink water for a couple of hours to feel hydrated again, saline IV treatments take roughly 45 minutes and the effects are felt immediately.

Saline IVs consist of a combination of sterile water and sodium chloride, or salt. This is the same makeup of fluids that exists naturally in our body. They work to restore fluid balance and hydrate tissues. Saline IVs can be offered on their own or combined with other nutrients and vitamins for additional benefits.
